(Westover, MD) Murder charges were served today on three individuals who were indicted by a Somerset County Grand Jury in connection with the death of a state prison inmate and an assault on one other inmate, in a facility on the Eastern Shore on November 8, 2009.
The Somerset County Grand Jury issued indictments for Damien Dupree, 27, Sheldon Briscoe, 20, and Phillip Sample, 24, all of whom are currently incarcerated at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, Maryland. All three were charged by indictment with one count each of first and second degree murder, two counts of first degree assault, one count of attempted first degree assault, four counts of conspiracy to commit first degree assault, one count of possession of contraband in a place of confinement and one count of carrying a dangerous or deadly weapon.
Police served the indictment this morning at 10:00 a.m. on Dupree, Briscoe and Sample at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, Maryland, where all three are incarcerated for other unrelated incidents. They were all assigned to the same tier as their victims during the time of the incident.
Since November, 2009, Maryland State Police homicide investigators, along with criminal investigators from the Salisbury and Princess Anne barracks have been investigating the murder of one inmate and the assault of another inmate in the Eastern Correctional Institution.
