(Pasadena, MD) – State and county police are continuing to investigate an apparent homicide after human body parts were found today in an Anne Arundel County river.
An identity of the victim is not known at this time. The remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for forensic testing.
At about 7:15 a.m. today, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police responded to the 400-block of Riverside Drive in Pasadena, after a homeowner called and reported finding possible human remains on the beach in front of his home. Officers found a severed human foot that had apparently washed up on the beach from Cockey Creek. Homes along the east side of Riverside Drive adjoin Cockey Creek, a large waterway that runs into the Magothy River.
County officers contacted Natural Resources Police officers and a search of the area ensued. At about 10:00 a.m. today, a homeowner five houses north of the original caller contacted police in the area and directed them to the water in front of his home. Officers recovered a second foot floating in the water along the beach.
Natural Resources Police contacted Maryland State Police, who responded and continued the investigation. A large-scale search of the waterway and the beaches on both sides was initiated.
