Welcome to the Maryland State Police website. Thank you for your interest in one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the nation. I am honored to serve as Maryland State Police Superintendent and to work with the men and women of this Department who diligently fulfill their duties each day with a sincere commitment to making our state safer.

The Maryland State Police is a department of state government that also includes the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Vehicle Theft Prevention Council. Nearly 2,500 sworn and civilian employees provide a full range of law enforcement services to the people of Maryland.

The Maryland State Police was organized in 1921 and charged with reducing crime and highway tragedies through statewide patrol and relentless enforcement of criminal and traffic laws. For more than 90 years, this mission has never changed. It remains the focus of what we do each day.

Our troopers and civilian support personnel are involved in criminal and traffic enforcement efforts in every Maryland county. We work in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency services agencies. We are part of a coordinated network of state resources ready to respond in times of crisis and always working to protect our citizens.

Whether you live here, are visiting, or are just traveling through our state, you can be assured that members of the Maryland State Police are on the job protecting, preventing, and providing. They are committed to protecting you and your family, preventing criminal acts and traffic crashes, and providing the highest quality of law enforcement services available anywhere.

Thank you for visiting the Maryland State Police website. I appreciate your interest in and support of the men and women who make up "Maryland's finest."
